I am Tang Yumeng from the Class of 2023 of the MA in Communication program-- Film, TV & New Media Concentration (FTNM), School of Culture and Creativity.

Transitioning from a screenwriter to a practitioner in film production management, I joined UIC in 2023 with a deep love for the film industry and a desire to pursue higher education. As far as I know, UIC is a good platform to bring together top-notch faculty members around the world to enlighten and communicate with students. These faculty members have not only strong academic backgrounds but also rich industry experience. This is one of the important reasons why I chose UIC to pursue the further study.

During my study at UIC, I learned different knowledge about new media and film production management. In particular, I've been fortunate to meet some experienced scriptwriting teachers who have shared their comprehensive knowledge and industry experience with me. In their classes, I was trained to not only use scriptwriting-related techniques to develop good stories, but also find inspirations in daily life and turn them into compelling stories.

One of the most significant lessons I learned at UIC is the importance of teamwork. Every project and discussion here need close collaboration and good communication with one another. During my study at UIC, I learned how to listen to others, express my opinions in a meaningful way, and find my role within the team to contribute effectively. These experiences have had a lasting impact on my career growth.

Overall, I was deeply impressed by the strong academic environment and genuine care from the UIC staff. Professors at UIC share their knowledge, professional experience, and personal insights frankly. Teaching assistants at UIC have been incredibly supportive, helping with our academic challenges while also looking out for our personal growth and well-being.

This supportive study environment has been vital in allowing me to apply what I've learned to practical work. It taught me how to tackle challenges, aim for excellence, and work well with others. Looking back at my time at UIC, I feel very grateful. Those days at UIC witnessed my efforts and personal growth, and they filled me with hope for the future. No matter what lies ahead, I will carry these memories and lessons with me, moving forward with confidence.
