Dr Robert Davidson is Senior Lecturer in Composition at the University of Queensland, Australia, as well as a bassist and guitarist. After studying composition with Terry Riley, he formed his quintet Topology, resident at the Brisbane Powerhouse. His music is focused on stylistic pluralism, intersections between music and language, and improvisation. His research focuses on modelling musical intelligence, qualitative studies of creativity and collaboration, and practice-based research. Besides his busy teaching schedule, Dr Davidson also has collaborated widely, with artists including Geoffrey Rush, The Brodsky Quartet, The Kransky Sisters, Gerry Connolly, the Southern Cross Soloists, and The Australian Voices.
Dr Davidson will discuss his use of speech in creating music, explaining his creative process and using it to give advice on nurturing creativity in general. He will focus on how technology can assist creative thinking and production. Dr Davidson will also discuss strategies for collaboration and maximising effectiveness.
