On April 23, 2025, Dr. Zhang Xiaonan and Dr. Cai Danting led students from the Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management Programme on a field study. They explored the Sanxingdui Exhibition and Beishan Compound historic district, examining innovative approaches to cultural heritage preservation and cultural tourism integration.
The field study commenced at Hengqin's Sanxingdui Exhibition. During an hour-long guided tour and artifact observation session, students explored the distinctive allure of ancient Shu civilization. They particularly examined exhibition design principles, visitor engagement strategies, cultural product development, and special exhibition management, sparking vibrant professional discussions.
The group then visited Beishan Compound, a prime example of Lingnan architecture that showcases Zhuhai's modern historical heritage. Within its well-preserved blue-brick structures and ornate beams, students analyzed practical applications of adaptive reuse in heritage buildings, community revitalization approaches, and cultural tourism integration models, witnessing the successful blend of traditional culture with contemporary tourism development.
This cross-century cultural dialogue has transformed traditional pedagogy. The field study's dual-module approach "exhibition analysis + on-site investigation", effectively connected theory with practice, establishing an innovative model for cultivating interdisciplinary cultural tourism professionals.
Through this theory-practice integration, the Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management Programme cultivates globally competent professionals with specialized knowledge, innovative thinking, and cultural sophistication, supporting the cultural tourism industry's premium development in the Greater Bay Area and beyond.
