Faculty in the program Cinema and Television (CTV) engage in film studies by integrating cultural investigations, technological studies, and research in political economy. CTV faculty members examine symbols and meanings in films and other video forms, revealing the profound cultural implications on people in society. In specific, they focus on films and a variety of video forms in Chinese and Asian contexts. Research topics include Chinese films and popular culture, film and gender, narrative art, Hong Kong independent documentary studies, etc. They also conduct cross-cultural investigations by comparing Chinese and Asian films with their Western counterparts. Some faculty members devote to the research on new technologies emerging in the field of film. For instance, they analyze how artificial intelligence facilitates film productions, and how immersive technologies affect the audience viewing experiences. Some research also discusses films by putting film productions in the larger political economic contexts of different countries. In addition, the faculty members examine the implementation of objective learning assessment in the promotion of creative talent in higher education.
