[MAD Fieldtrip] Exploring Visual Experiences @Guangdong Museum of Art (GDMoA)

On March 18, 2023, students from the Media Arts and Design (MAD) program visited the Guangdong Museum of Art (GDMoA) in Guangzhou with Mr. Andy Tam, Ms. Sienna, and Ms. Joanna. The purpose of the visit was to update the students' knowledge of contemporary art and establish their artistic sense and insight in terms of the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Definitely it is designed to provide a platform by overviewing of the art creation and production as exemplified in our neighborhood communities such as Guangzhou. Finally the students developed their visual understanding and awareness through exploration of artistic contexts.

During the visit, the students participated in guided art visits, art conversations, and contemporary art appreciation at the 7th Guangzhou Triennial "Symphony of All the Changes". They experienced works from leading contemporary artists, such as HUANG Yishang (China), Dikhen Dural by Małgorzata Mirga-Tas (Poland), Alba Redux (from the GFP Bunny series) by Eduardo Kac (USA), Apple of My Eye by Skuja Braden (Latvia/USA), Psychic Pusher by Francis Upritchard (New Zealand), Cong by Wang Lijun (China), and Dreamy Lisa Salon by WUTIAOREN (China), among others. The visit nourished their art awareness and visual experiences, upgrading their sense of art and quality of life.

In addition, the visit helped to foster the students' artistic sensitivity and appreciation of art in general. They had face-to-face sharing with museum practitioners, giving them a more in-depth understanding of artists' concepts, statements, and artworks. The "Triennial" visit met the students' future expectations and attitudes towards a more liberal arts life at UIC.
