Arts and design have always been my passion, and despite my years of art training, I realised that my previous understanding of art was floating on the surface when I enrolled in the MAD at UIC. Therefore, my four years at MAD were more about exploring and appreciating art and design than only completing my studies. I am grateful to the teachers I met during this period who helped and inspired me academically and mentally, and such positive influence will last a lifetime. After graduating from UIC, I studied User Experience Engineering at Goldsmiths, and it was during this time I decided to pursue a PhD. Since lacking the data analysis and other skills required for academic research, I chose the Social Statistics programme at UoM to build a foundation for my PhD research, and I have now received a PhD offer from UoM and will be starting my PhD this September. From my undergraduate programme to my upcoming PhD study, I have constantly adjusted my orientations, always finding my own path.
For MADer:
I would suggest that younger students think and act diligently. I believe that learning is not just about knowledge and skills, but also learning to open your mind, build thinking habits and upgrade thinking system; and try new things bravely, not be confined to your comfort zone, because change never happens itself.
