Jazz Singing Workshop Successfully Concludes with Enthusiastic Participation

    On November 26, the UIC Music Department hosted an engaging Jazz Singing Workshop in classroom CC129. The event featured Anna Devina, a versatile vocalist renowned for her expertise in jazz, whose vibrant teaching style captivated the audience and delivered a unique musical experience.

    The workshop attracted a diverse group of music enthusiasts, filling the venue to capacity. Drawing from her extensive performance and teaching background, Anna Devina shared the core techniques and unique charm of jazz singing. Her explanations covered topics such as the concept of "instrumental singing," selecting repertoire suited to individual styles, and interpreting swing, bossa nova, and ballads. She also introduced the fundamentals of vocal improvisation, emphasizing rhythmic and melodic creativity, and discussed effective collaboration with a jazz band.

    A highlight of the event was Anna's invitation for an audience member to engage in an impromptu vocal improvisation session.
