In the afternoon of November 27, 2023, a lecture “Exploring the Development Trends of the Exhibition Industry and the Integration of Exhibition and Cultural Tourism”, organized by the Culture, Creativity and Management (CCM) Programme of School of Culture and Creativity (SCC), was held in the school's T2-102 Lecture Theatre. Ms. Doris WEN, the Vice General Manager of Exhibition Venue Business Department, Zhuhai Huafa International Convention & Exhibition Management Co., Ltd, shared the industry experience and her personal opinions with UIC teachers and students.

The lecture was hosted by Dr. Purrie NG, Associate Professor of CCM Programme. She introduced that this lecture was held to provide students with fundamental understanding and knowledge of the exhibition industry. The theme is closely related to the course “Exhibition Design: Creative Interpretation and Management”. This course mainly teaches the basic principles of exhibition design, and focuses on cultivating students' creative interpretation and exhibition project management methods.
Dr. Yuan YUAN, Acting Department Head of Department of Culture Creativity and Design (DCCD) and Assistant Professor, delivered a welcome speech. She expressed her gratitude to Ms. WEN for her enthusiasm for education and generous sharing of experience, and wished this lecture could deepen the school-enterprise cooperation and promote talent cultivation. Exhibition industry is an important part of the cultural industry, she hoped students to better understand the current situation of the exhibition industry, learn from industry experience, and become industry elites in the future. After the speech, she and Dr. Purrie NG, Associate Professor of CCM Programme, presented Ms. WEN with a Certificate of Appreciation as well as souvenir.

In the lecture, Ms. WEN used rich data, interesting cases and humorous language to introduce the development trends of the international exhibition industry as well as the characteristics and trends of Chinese conference industry. She also put forward her profound thinking about exhibition innovation, integrated development of culture and tourism, and the value of venue space. She said that when integrating culture and tourism, the primary task is to build an efficient and high-quality exhibition space for organizers of exhibition events and guests, focusing on the “sense of atmosphere”, “sense of activity” as well as “sense of the future”. Combining the advantages of the venue, new content and value can be added into exhibition venues from the perspectives of exhibition space, cultural space, consumption space, and theme space.

During the Q&A and free chat sessions, students raised questions about postgraduate studies and employment. Ms. WEN answered the questions based on the current status of industry and personal experience. The students expressed their gratitude that they had benefited a lot from this important informational supplement to their theoretical studies in school. They had gained a deeper understanding of the exhibition industry, and stronger interest as well as confidence in joining this industry.
