On a sunny afternoon of March 12, 2025, Course Instructor Dr. Purrie NG and Assistant Instructor Ms. Doris XIE led two groups of CCM and THEM students for a field trip. They are currently taking the courses “Past to Present State of Arts in Cultural Industries” and “Exhibition Design: Creative Interpretation and Management” respectively. Hengqin Cultural and Art Center is located in the Guangdong Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. It is a cultural and artistic complex designed with the concept of “Landscape of Hengqin, living room of the Bay Area”. This exhibition showcases the glorious achievements of the ancient Shu civilization from all aspects and multiple perspectives through four major parts and 163 famous and precious cultural relics discovered at the Sanxingdui and Jinsha sites.
(Some well-known exhibits)
Through carefully visiting cultural relics of various categories and unique shapes, students have come to appreciate the abundant cultural resources of ancient Shu culture and the extraordinary imagination and creativity of the ancestors in Shu.

“The ancient Shu ancestors, with their extraordinary imagination and outstanding creativity, left a vivid mark on the stage of Chinese history, composing a magnificent movement in the development of world civilization”. The ancient Shu civilization is a brilliant pearl in the long river of Chinese history, and the Sanxingdui site reflects the mutual learning and blending of Chinese civilization. Visiting the Sanxingdui special exhibition can enhance students' appreciation about the values of the ancient Chinese art and cultural development in terms of functions, forms, ornaments and symbols. Besides it also deepens their understanding towards the display methods of how text, printed images and real object models combined in exhibition design. It is undoubtedly a meaningful field trip!
